Donald Trump says there’s nothing that would make him drop out of the 2024 presidential race — even being convicted of a crime.
In an interview that aired Tuesday night on Fox News, Trump was asked by Tucker Carlson: “Is there anything they could throw at you legally, that would convince you to drop out the race? If you get convicted in this case in New York, would you drop out?”
Trump responded: “No, I’d never drop out. That’s not my thing. I wouldn’t do it.”
And here’s nothing in the Constitution that would prevent Trump from running, if convicted.
The interview was Trump’s first since being arraigned last week in Manhattan, where he was indicted on 34 charges connected to hush-money payments. He’s also facing a business fraud investigation by New York’s attorney general and an election-interference probe in Georgia.
Trump claimed in the interview that court workers wept while he was being processed in the Manhattan court house.
“People that work there, professionally work there that have no problems putting in murderers and they see everybody,” Trump said. “It’s a tough, tough place and they were crying. They were actually crying. They said ‘I’m sorry,’ they’d say, ‘2024 sir,’ and tears were pouring down. I’ve never seen anything like that.”
