State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) is expected to launch its 4G services from January, CNBC-Awaaz said on November 15.

India’s biggest software services exporter Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has bagged the tender for the construction of towers to enable the rollout of the service, it said.

The tender for the setting up of 4G towers was released in January and the Tata group company is likely to give its nod in two to three days, the report cited sources as saying.

The IT major got the tender worth Rs 28,000 crore for the setting up of nearly one lakh telephone towers, sources said. The towers are likely to be set up over the next two years.

Along with the setting up 4G sites, TCS will maintain the network for nine years.

The loss-making BSNL, which recently got a Rs 1.64-lakh-crore bailout package from the government,  is likely to send the purchase order for the construction and setting up of the towers in the coming month.

Tejas Networks, a unit of Tata Sons, is expected to locally manufacture the network equipment for BSNL.
