Government officials and big companies on Wednesday will offer a set of announcements on cybersecurity related to technology and workforces, according to a senior Biden administration official.
The announcements are due to come as President Joe Biden and other administration officials meet on Wednesday with top CEOs from the tech sector and other industries to discuss ways to improve cybersecurity HACK, +1.94%.
There will be specific commitments and concrete steps, the senior administration official told reporters on Tuesday, without giving details.
The participating chief executives are expected to include Apple’s AAPL, -0.06% Tim Cook, Microsoft’s MSFT, -0.67% Satya Nadella and Amazon’s AMZN, +1.22% Andy Jassy, who took over last month from Jeff Bezos. Alphabet’s GOOG, +0.92% GOOGL, +0.87% Google, IBM IBM, +0.16%, ADP ADP, -1.67%, JPMorgan Chase JPM, +0.62%, Bank of America BAC, +1.39%, TIAA, U.S. Bancorp USB, +1.14%, ConocoPhillips COP, +1.13%, Duke Energy DUK, -0.64%, PG&E PCG, +1.54%, Southern Co. SO, -1.41%, Williams WMB, +0.57% and Travelers TRV, +0.46% also are expected be among the companies with CEOs taking part.
Washington is trying to respond to an ongoing barrage of cyberattacks. This year has brought high-profile incidents such as the Colonial Pipeline ransomware attack that led to gasoline RBU21, -0.07% shortages in the Southeast, and the massive SolarWinds SWI, +2.41% hack that affected the networks of multiple government agencies and corporations.
