Maharashtra Minister Nitin Raut on Saturday said around 30 Delta variant coronavirus cases have been detected in Nashik recently and it wouldn’t be long before they start getting detected in Nagpur as well.After chairing a review meeting of top civic and police officials here, Raut, who is guardian minister of Nagpur, said people will throng markets in the upcoming festive season, which increased the risk of a third wave of infections. He also praised the police force here for maintaining law and order while enforcing COVID-19 norms, adding that cases and deaths came down to zero here due to the sizable presence of personnel on the streets.

Mumbai on Saturday reported 331 coronavirus positive cases and five fatalities, taking the tally of infections to 7,37,193 and the toll to 15,942, the city civic body said. With 473 patients discharged during the day, the overall number of recoveries in Mumbai reached 7,14,639, leaving the city with 4,196 active cases, a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report said. The case recovery rate in Mumbai now stands at 97 per cent. The case doubling time has reached 1,642 days, the report said. With 35,264 new tests, the number of samples tested so far in Mumbai has gone up to 83,79,141, it said.

Maharashtra reported 6,061 new coronavirus cases and 128 fatalities on Saturday which took the state’s infection tally to 63,47,820 and death toll to 1,33,845, a health department official said. As many as 9,356 patients were discharged from hospitals, pushing the number of recoveries to 61,39,493. Maharashtra has 71,050 active coronavirus cases now. As many as 4,31,539 people are in-home quarantine and 2,761 are in institutional quarantine.The state’s case recovery rate is 96.72 per cent, while the fatality rate is 2.1 per cent.The number of coronavirus tests conducted in the state climbed to 4,93,72,212 with 1,99,681 samples being tested since Friday evening

Jammu and Kashmir recorded 142 fresh cases of coronavirus on Saturday, taking the infected number of persons to 3,22,428 while the death toll remained 4,386 as no new fatality was reported for the second consecutive day, officials said. Out of the fresh cases, 59 were from the Jammu division and 83 from the Kashmir division of the union territory, they said. Srinagar district recorded the highest number of cases at 36, followed by 16 in Doda district.

Coronavirus LIVE Updates | No fresh Covid cases reported in Muzaffarnagar in last 4 days
No fresh COVID-19 cases have been reported in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar in the last four days and there are only two active cases in the district, officials said on Saturday. Chief Medical Officer Dr M S Faujdar said test results of 383 samples were received on Saturday and all of them came back negative. Six more patients have recovered from COVID-19 and there are only two active cases in the district, he said. Muzaffarnagar’s Covid caseload stands at 30,644. While 30,373 people recovered from the disease, 269 died, the officials said.

Kerala on Saturday reported 20,367 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 139 deaths, pushing the total number infected to 35,33,918 and fatalities to 17,654 till date. As many as 20,265 people have been cured of the infection since Friday, taking the total recoveries to 33,37,579 and the number of active cases to 1,78,166, an official press release said. In the last 24 hours, 1,52,521 samples were tested and the test positivity rate (TPR) was found to be 13.35 per cent. So far, 2,83,79,940 samples have been tested, the release said. Some of the worst affected were people in the districts: Malappuram saw 3,413 cases, Thrissur (2500), Kozhikode (2221), Palakkad (2137), Ernakulam (2121), Kollam (1420), Kannur (1217), Alappuzha (1090), Kottayam (995) and Thiruvananthapuram (944). Of the new cases, 83 are health workers, 86 from outside the State and 19,221 were infected through contact with the source of contact not being clear in 977 cases, the release said. There are currently 4,91,491 people under surveillance in various districts. Of these, 4,62,411 are in home or institutional quarantine and 29,080 in hospitals.

China’s Wuhan city, where the coronavirus first emerged in 2019 and which is currently experiencing a resurgence of infections, has tested 11.23 of its over 12 million people, local authorities said on Saturday. Wuhan reported six new locally-transmitted confirmed cases and 15 asymptomatic cases. By the end of Friday, Hubei province, Wuhan’s capital, reported 47 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 31 locally-transmitted cases. Wuhan has collected over 11.23 million samples for nucleic acid testing, local authorities said. There were also 64 asymptomatic cases under medical observation, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported. The city launched a new, all-inclusive testing drive on August 4. The results from 10.8 million of the samples are available. The health staffers are still checking and confirming, Li Yang, deputy director of the Hubei provincial centre for disease control and prevention, told the media on Saturday.

Coronavirus LIVE Updates | Over 2 lakh challans issued by Delhi Police between April 19-Aug 6 for Covid violations
The Delhi Police has issued over two lakh challans between April 19 and August 6 this year to those found violating Covid guidelines in the national capital, according to official data. The maximum challans during this period were issued for face mask violation. According to the data shared by Additional Delhi Police PRO Anil Mittal, 2,00,691 challans were issued between April 19 and August 6 for various Covid violations. Of them, 1,69,659 challans were issued to those not wearing mask, 26,744 to those found violating social distancing norms, 1,842 for consumption of liquor, pan, gutkha, etc, 1,562 for holding large public gatherings or congregations and 884 for spitting, the data showed. On Friday, the police issued challans to 1,072 people for not wearing mask, 215 for violating social distancing norm, two for holding large public gatherings or congregations, 22 for spitting and 91 for consumption of liquor, oan, gutkha, tobacco etc.
