The Margin: This four-legged robot can open doors and we’re all doomed
Boston Dynamics showed off its latest advanced robot Monday, which left some people wondering if it was a technological marvel or dystopian nightmare fuel.
Maybe a little bit of both?
In a video, the dog-like four-legged SpotMini robot is seen opening a closed door with a mechanical arm, and walking though. It’s just one more human-like movement that Boston Dynamics‘ machines have mastered. In November, the Waltham, Mass.,-based company showed one of its robots doing a backflip.
Last summer, Japanese conglomerate Softbank Group Corp. 9984, +2.09% bought Boston Dynamics from Google parent Alphabet Inc. GOOGL, +0.79% GOOG, +1.36%
The reaction Monday on social media could best be summed up as: Humans are doomed.
In the future, maybe we’ll have flying cars!

Why does Boston Dynamics seemingly brag about being the developers of our future mass murderers and robot overlords? pic.twitter.com/3oNzkpyvIT
