Charles Manson alive, but reportedly on death's doorstep in California hospital: 'It’s just a matter of time'
Mass murderer Charles Manson is alive in a California hospital, but new reports suggest he may be near to death after serving more than four decades behind bars for committing one of the most notorious crimes in modern history.
Officials rushed the 83-year-old convict from the Corcoran State Prison to a Bakersfield hospital earlier in the week.
Authorities have released only limited information about his condition, citing privacy laws, but the New York Post reported that a spokeswoman for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation confirmed that Manson is currently alive in the hospital.
And while it’s not the first time he’s been hospitalized this year, TMZ reports that Manson’s latest health scare may be his worst yet.
“It’s just a matter of time,” one source told TMZ.
Manson has been serving nine concurrent life sentences for orchestrating one of the most notorious crimes in U.S. history, had been imprisoned for more than 45 years in prison.
In the 1960s, Manson, an ex-convict, assembled a group of runaways and outcasts known as the “Manson Family.” In the summer of 1969, he directed his mostly young, female followers to murder seven people in what prosecutors said was part of a plan to incite a race war.
Among the victims was actress Sharon Tate, the pregnant wife of filmmaker Roman Polanski. She was stabbed 16 times by cult members.
