The European Investment Bank announced on Friday that it had issued its “largest loan” to date for a European Union eastern partner country, giving Ukraine €450m ($644.5m) to renovate its dilapidated roads.

Co-financed by a separate €450m loan approved last year by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the project is expected to better connect the EU with Ukraine, along with other former Soviet republics.
